How did a Norwich, New York, coal business that started during the Calvin Coolidge administration grow to become the most trusted energy, HVAC and all-around home comfort provider in the Northeast? The story involves a family and a dedicated team of hardworking individuals across multiple generations.

James Mirabito, an Italian immigrant, starts a coal business known as James Mirabito Coal Dealer in Norwich, NY. The company is incorporated in 1927.
Thomas opens a Sidney, NY branch by purchasing H.M. Bloxham Coal & Feed. James signs a distributor agreement with ARCO to sell home heating oil in Norwich, Sidney and nearby areas. In 1948, he purchases a bulk oil terminal in Sidney and becomes a Mobil Oil home heating oil distributor.
Ownership passes to James’s four sons—Thomas, Rosario, Angelo and Anthony—and the company is incorporated as James Mirabito & Sons, Inc. In the following years, the company acquires businesses in Greene, Bainbridge and Unadilla, and the brothers start an asphalt business.
On March 13, James Mirabito passes away, having seen the company successfully transition to the next generation.
The company purchases a 500-acre farm in Unadilla and begins construction of the Golden Valley Sports Camp, offering intensive training led by college coaches and well-known athletes for up to 2,000 campers each summer. (Sold in 1991.)
Mirabito purchases its first convenience store in Oxford, NY, selecting Quickway Food Stores as the retail brand. Acquisitions continue through the decade.
Acquisition of Savory Oil (Vestal, NY) with a Chevron terminal and pipeline access to the New Jersey refinery; six-million-gallon storage capacity—kicking off significant storage growth.
A fire destroys the bulk oil plant on Cartwright Ave., Sidney, including a transport truck and four tank wagons. Thankfully, no lives are lost.
Second generation sells to third-generation family members: Thomas Jr. and Joseph (sons of Thomas Sr.), Vincent and Ross (sons of Rosario), and Michael (son of Angelo).
First annual Mirabito golf tournament at Genegantslet Golf Club (Greene, NY). Proceeds benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).
Acquisitions in Syracuse, Walton, Binghampton, Roscoe (NY) and Susquehanna (PA).
Propane division established.
Miragas, Inc. is established to sell natural gas and electricity; later known as Mirabito Power & Gas.
Mirabito merges with Mang Insurance and establishes Granite Capital Holdings, Inc. (Mirabito and Mang names retained for marketing.)

Launch of customer loyalty & rewards; partnership with Angus Energy Partners, LLC to provide customized supply and hedging services to petroleum marketers nationwide.
Oxford, NY convenience store opens Mirabito’s first Subway franchise. After major flooding in 2006, headquarters moves from Sidney to Binghamton.
2010 — Sponsor of the first-ever AHL outdoor hockey game, “The Mirabito Outdoor Classic,” at the NY State Fairgrounds (Syracuse).
Rebranding of Quickway Food Stores and Convenience Express Stores to Mirabito Convenience Stores.
Service footprint expands into New York’s Southern Tier, Cooperstown, Eastern Connecticut, Western Massachusetts, Vermont and more communities across the Northeast.
More companies join the Mirabito family, extending services to new customers. Many convenience stores begin including Dunkin’ franchises.
Parish, NY location reopens as a travel center featuring Dunkin’ and Subway, Mirabito food offerings, lounge seating, a tech charging area and multiple fuel options for the community and travelers.
Mirabito acquires Huff Ice Cream, now known as Huff Delivers, a trusted procurement, warehousing and distribution company delivering ice cream, frozen goods, snacks and other products.
